Marketing for an insurance agency is a lot like marketing for any other type of business. If you follow the right steps, your online advertising efforts will be successful, you will get a lot of insurance leads, and you will build a successful and thriving online presence.

However, this is easier said than done. If you're wondering why you can't seem to rank in Google search results, you may be doing something wrong. Rest assured, though, that most problems can be fixed. Here are 5 reasons your page might not be ranking, and how you can fix them for your agency's website.

1. Trying to Rank for the Wrong Keywords
This is perhaps the biggest mistake newbie webmasters make. If you sell insurance, it's absolutely no use
trying to rank for the keyword "insurance." You will never beat out the big names in the industry, so instead shoot for highly tailored phrases such as "Florida homeowners insurance".

2. Your SEO Stinks
Once you nail down your keywords, make sure they're represented in URLs, headings, text and the alt tags of images, otherwise Google won't know they're there.

3. You Have Sub-Par Content
Content is still king, believe it or not. No matter your industry, people are looking to see if you know your stuff. If you do, you'll get trusting leads who may very well become customers. If you don't, you're likely out of luck.

4. No One's Paying Attention
Another reason you might not be ranking is because you have no inbound links. In other words, no one's talking about your agency. Try and create high-quality relationships with people in related fields so they'll blog, tweet and post about you, as well as backlink to your site.

5. You're Not Mobile-Friendly
It's official: Google now penalizes any websites that aren't mobile friendly. Don't let that happen to you. Instead, make sure your site is responsive so it responds well no matter the device your customers are on, such as their phone, tablet, etc.

The next step of the process is using social media platforms to get more leads and generate more revenue for your insurance agency.  Download our eBook below to find out how you can get started.
